The history of the partnership

The idea of an official partnership between both regional administrative bodies was first initiated when David K. Bausch, administration director of Lehigh County, payed a visit to the former president of the Regionalverband, Klaus M. Heinemann, in 1980. The fact that numerous ties had already been established with the seat of administration of Lehigh County, Allentown, PA, fit in very well their plans.

There were mutual visits as early as 1981. On December 17, 1981, the "Stadtverbandstag" officially enhanced friendly ties on the German behalf. Finally, by mid-may 1982 every-thing was ready: in a ceremony the documents of partnership were solemnly exchanged sealing the partnership and friendship between Lehigh County and the "Stadtverband Saarbrücken", now "Regionalverband Saarbrücken"
